Tatum Andrew Talbot {Born 03.21.12}

Born @ 11:43 pm on March 21, 2012.

Weight: 8 lbs. 10 oz
Length 21.5 inches

We were scheduled for an induction on Wednesday morning. When it had been scheduled we were told that we were 1st on the list. We had a routine appointment scheduled for Monday the 19th at 9:10 am. We went to the appointment and got checked. I was a 1.5cm dilated and not effaced. Dr. T verified that we were planning on an induction on Friday. We told him we thought it was suppose to be Wednesday? Miscommunication or something with the M.A. , but not a biggie. The M.A. called and got it switched, we were just 3rd on the list now, instead of 1st. We went to dinner on Tuesday night after I got home from SUU {to the Black Bear with the Travellers'), then went home. We were planning on going to Kneader's for breakfast, then we would come home and finish packing, because the Dr. told us to plan on later morning maybe early afternoon for a call to come in. But, with our luck (because we were not prepared) we got a call at 5am! The girl said "Is this Tia"? "Are you ready to come in and have that baby"? We were so excited and scared! We hopped out of bed, showered, finished packing and dropped Tucker off at the Traveller's house across the street and headed in!

We got to the hospital just a little after 6am, they admitted us, started paperwork, the IV and the IV fluids. We started Pitocin around 7:30am and there it began! When I 1st got there I was dilated to a 2. My goal with this delivery was to wait longer for the epidural, because my last labor was so long, and once you get the epidural you are bed bound! I ended up making it to 4:30pm before Tyler told me that it was time to ask for it. I labored all day & Tatum still was not dropping and I was not dilating very fast, but we stayed patient.

We heard about 5-6 other babies cry down the hall who were being delivered & it made us more excited & jealous! At about 8:15pm the RN came in and checked me! I was 9cm+. We were getting closer! The RN called Dr. Thompson at 8:45 to come in. She was nervous because his heart rate kept dropping with each contraction and she was nervous to let it go too much longer. Randomly I just started throwing up. I wasn't really even feeling nauseated, it just hit fast and hard. Dr. Thompson got there and I was 10cm+ so I pulled myself together and started pushing. Tatum still wasn't low enough, so he had me stop and we turned up the Pitocin. We waited another hour. They came back in, and we got set up to start pushing again. Everytime I would push Tatum would push down a little and when I was finished pushing he would slip back up in side. The Dr. said "you take 10 steps forward and 9 steps back". I swore he was never going to come out. The Dr called for the NICU team and for Dr. Fagnant {High Risk MD} to come to the delivery. I pushed and pushed and pushed....and then he got stuck. He got pushed up against my pelvic bone and couldn't get past for 20 minutes. They got the forcepts and vaccuum out in hopes to just pull him out because he wasn't doing good. Then Dr. Thompson just decided to cut me {episiotomy} to see if that would help and out Tatum slipped right out & had the cord around his neck. They couldn't let Tyler cut the cord, the Dr's cut it and he was handed off to the NICU team. He looked horrible when he came out. He was completely pale and blue. I sat there watching them waiting to hear him cry. I waited and waited. Tyler stood by me and wasn't sure where to go. I kept telling him to run over and watch Tatum, but he didn't want to leave me. I kept telling him I was fine, so after a few minutes he ran over. After what seemed like an eternity, but in reality was 5-7 minutes I asked "why isn't he crying yet!". They reassured me that they were working on him. The NICU team was so good at involving him and explaining everything they were doing. They had to use positive pressure to breathe for him and use a tube to suck out what he had swollowed from his lungs. After 15 minutes of helping him breathe they took him off of everything and waited to see if he would rebound and take over breathing by himself.

After a couple minutes he bounced back and was doing good. After they got him stable, they got him cleaned up, weighed & measured and I finally got to hold him.

Both doctors worked together stitching me up for an hour. And Tyler was able to sit by me and hold his new little boy.

We were transferred up stairs to Mom&Baby at 2:00am and were finally able to settle in and go to bed at 3:00am. We sent Tatum to the nursery and were able to get 3-4 hours of sleep. Tucker came in to meet his little brother that morning. We were anxious to see his initial reaction, and we were not sure how it was going to go. He walked in the room and did not know how to act. Overall he was not impressed. He did not want to touch him or see him. Tyler took Tatum and tried to talk to Tucker. Tyler and Tucker looked at Tatum's fingers and toes, and Tucker watched.

. We were discharged home on the 22nd and got home around 9pm. It was so nice to be home. Tyler stayed out in the living room with Tatum the 1st night and told me to go to bed. It was so nice to get some good sleep! I have the best husband in the world. We have had family and friends come and visit at the hospital and home. We are so lucky to have so much family support. We had so much help with Tucker and it was so nice to know that he was taken care of while we were in the hospital.
